We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a motivated and talented individual to support the Cellular Pathology team and the Breast Pathology Research Group (BPRG) with the delivery of Digital pathology research projects,

This role would suit candidates with an interest in healthcare IT and data management. A background or an interest in cellular pathology and digital security would be highly beneficial but NOT essential.

This role is based predominantly at the Queens Medical Centre campus but may also be required to attend the Nottingham City Hospital Site.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate should have knowledge and experience of histopathology processes and knowledge or experience of Digital pathology platforms and ICT infrastructure requirements as you will be expected to assist with:

  • Use of Digital scanner and related software, set up, ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Digital scanning of slides and overseeing image quality and output.
  • Liaising with colleagues from NUH Trust departments, research project teams and external digital provider(s) including 3rd party vendors
  • Data management, collation and data transfer

Working for our organisation

Cellular Pathology is a large department with, 30 pathologists, 15 Speciality trainees, 147 Technical & Scientific staff and 21 A+C staff. we provide services from both campuses, have an active training & development program for staff and have an active input to various reach programs. The BPRG are a small team who work closely together across both sites have been undertaking research into the use of digital pathology diagnostics for the last 12 months and continues to support several research projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As an Associate Practitioner, the post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust’s objectives.

holders’ main role is to support the Breast Pathology Research Group (BPRG) with the delivery of Digital Pathology project(s) and to be a technical expert/point of contact in digital pathology. The post holder will also provide technical support/advice to Biomedical Scientists in carrying out the analysis of pathological samples using various technologies and to present the results for validation or authorisation as appropriate. It is expected that the post holder would be able to work unsupervised for significant periods.

The post holder will be expected to assist the section manager (Team Leader / Principle Investigator) in the daily operation of the assigned section including the supervision of support staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Attained or working towards UFD in Pathology or hold equivalent qualifications, e.g. science degree or IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part 2.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate competency at Higher MLA level (band 3) or equivalent
  • Significant experience of laboratory work in a Pathology environment
  • Excellent I.T. skills especially with regards to Excel and data manipulation techniques
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within a Cellular Pathology Service.

  • Able to plan own work and those of supervised staff to meet agreed targets on an ongoing basis

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

  • Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£45 for enhanced and £28 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
