The Department of Histology is ISO15189:2012 accredited and is also a recognised HCPC / IBMS training laboratory. The successful candidate should be willing to participate in all areas of the laboratory where possible and be able to identify and be involved in service improvement. They will be expected to work flexibly so that staff cover is maintained during the core working hours of the department.
Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users.
This role will encompass cross site working at both Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.
To work as part of a team of skilled Biomedical Scientists within the Histopathology department to provide a high quality pathology service.
The post holder will assist in carrying out the routine work of the Department in order to meet departmental and organisational objectives.
To follow Departmental Standard Operating Procedures and to supervise and assist in the training of new and junior staff, including Laboratory Support staff.
In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution
The Histology Department at Airedale processes the work for both Airedale and Bradford. The operational aspect of the laboratory is facilitated by automated staining and the use of BOND III immunohistochemical staining platforms. Digital scanners have recently been installed and it is anticipated that the laboratory will integrate digital pathology into its’ working practices. All work is tracked using Cerebro tracking system. A non gynae cytology service is also provided. The successful candidate should have experience of most aspects of the Histopathology Laboratory but training will be provided where necessary.
Aside from participating in the technical aspect of laboratory work the successful candidate will be expected to supervise and train new and existing staff in the department. They will also help to ensure the laboratory works efficiently; ensuring turnaround times and quality standards are maintained across all areas.
