Full Job Description
A post is available in the Histopathology Department, which forms part of the Cellular Pathology directorate. This post presents an opportunity to be part of an excellent team working in a busy, modern hospital laboratory.
The department has a workload of around 61 000 surgical requests per year and covers a wide range of routine and specialised services. The service is expanding Biomedical Scientist advanced dissection roles and is also developing Biomedical Scientist reporting roles. The service has a specimen tracking system and digital pathology reporting.
The department encourages active professional development and further educational activities.
Histopathology receives and processes patient (tissue) samples to provide diagnostic reports to hospital clinicians and General Practitioners. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a committed team of office, laboratory and Consultant Pathologist staff.

The successful applicant will work in all areas of the service, on rotation with other staff. This post will provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience in routine histopathology, Mohs technique, special stains, immunocytochemistry and molecular pathology.
The post holder is required to perform a range of specialised practical histological methodologies in the immunocytochemistry, special stains, dissection/reception, and section cutting services. Maintain the laboratory information service ensuring accurate and updated patient sample information. As specialised staff, is required to use complex equipment.
