An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional senior operational leader to join a dynamic and high-profile team within our Unscheduled Care Division, as General Manager for Pathology and Transfusion Services at the Great Western Hospital (GWH) in Swindon.

As General Manager for Pathology Services, you will manage and develop Pathology and Transfusion Practitioner services, providing day to day leadership and oversight for teams across Blood Sciences, Microbiology, Cellular Pathology, Mortuary & Bereavement Services. You will undertake Laboratory Director responsibilities as stipulated in ISO 15189:2012.

You will work closely with the Clinical leads, Lead Clinicians and Senior Nurses to ensure we provide and deliver safe, high quality effective services to the Trust and associated commissioning groups. You will lead on business planning, support strategic service developments and service transformational programmes of work, working in collaboration with Divisions and other external stakeholders and agencies.

It’s an exciting time to be joining the team, working collaboratively and in partnership with South 4 Pathology Partnership Network colleagues on the implementation of the new Laboratory Information Management System and the Digital Pathology transformation programmes.

1. In consultation with the Divisional Clinical Leads, the Divisional Director and Associate Medical Director, the post-holder is required to prioritise and coordinate the development of the above Services in line with Trust and national priorities and to conduct appropriate capacity and strategic planning.
2. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the appropriateness of the Services and that the performance management requirements of the Trust are met (in particular financial expenditure targets, cost control, quality and activity targets.)
3. The post holder has overall responsibility for the Departmental budgets, overseeing the financial position, and monitoring the management of delegated budgets within the department.
4. The post holder is required to liaise with the Departmental Managers and Heads of Service, Senior Nursing staff, Divisional Director and Deputy Director, the Divisional Clinical Leads and other Consultant Heads of Department, senior clinicians and managers across the Trust, other Trust Directors, senior staff from departments such as Human Resources, Finance and Procurement, other healthcare professionals, external agencies, suppliers and their agents, patients and their representatives.
