Your new role
In this position as a (Jr.) Technician Pathology, you will help build a state-of-the-art Pathology team to support a variety of discovery, pre-clinical and clinical programs within your new employer. You will work with internal research teams to develop and perform new and state-of-the-art molecular pathology techniques to detect and quantify (in situ) mRNA and protein expression in normal and diseased tissues, using single/multiplex IHC, ISH (in situ hybridization) on automated platforms (Leica Bond, Ventana Discovery).
The Pathology team works together with internal project and expert teams, to guide the development of ground-breaking new medicines from concept to the clinic. In your team, you work together with other experienced Technicians and Scientists. Your team delivers insights into target and biomarker expression in tissues to further support safety assessments, disease indication selection and mechanisms of action of therapeutic target concepts. Your team is an international Pathology team embedded within the Translational Research Group and works closely together to perform experiments in-house and in collaboration with international contract research organizations (CROs).

Your responsibilities include:

  • Generating microscopic slide scans using standard bright field and fluorescence whole slide scanners and perform quantitative image analysis.
  • Translating scientific questions into experimental plans and managing these into wet-lab activities.
  • Developing new single and multiplex IHC/ISH tests, responsible for experimental work, including routine tests, experiments, documentation, interpretation and filing of the data.
  • Support reporting of scientific results in patents, publications, regulatory documents and reports. In this respect you design tissue analysis assays and interpret and precisely document the data.
  • Assisting in managing human tissue databases and downstream lab processes using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and digital image databases.

Your profile

To be successful as a (Jr.) Technician Pathology, you have a Bachelor’s degree and you have some (internship) experience in pathology, working with immunohistochemistry and using autostainer platforms. Ideally, you combine this with immunology, tumor biology and/or molecular pathology knowledge and experience. On top if this, you have experience with ISH (RNAscope), multiplex IHC and digital pathology (image analysis and image data management). Dutch is not mandatory for this position, fluent English is a must.

As a person, you are capable of managing several studies at the same time and you are able to work in a flexible way while adapting to tight timelines. You recognize the importance of working in accordance to the quality systems, which includes adhering to standardized procedures and detailed documentation of your work. On top of this, you are enthusiastic and goal-oriented, you communicate openly, you enjoy working in a team and can adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
