PhD position in multi-modal imaging (H&E, CT, MALDI imaging) for digital pathology (f/m/d)

In cooperation with different partners from industry, the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and German university hospitals the project aims to develop a workflow for non-destructive tissue processing and tissue diagnostics. The subproject “Radiohistology and Radioproteomics” focuses on the co-registration of high-resolution spatial (“3D”) microCT data, MALDI-imaging and hematoxylin & eosin stained tissue specimens. In the project, we are awarding a PhD position to achieve a Dr. rer. nat. (German PhD) degree.

As a candidate you come from the field of life sciences, natural sciences or computer science with a minor in life sciences. You will work on this project in a team with a medical PhD student, a technical assistant, a research assistant and two PIs.
Tasks include testing of informatics solutions provided by our cooperation partners, application of the software to combine and analyze the multi-modal data, MALDI imaging data analysis, 3D reconstruction and co-registration with other imaging modalities. Wet-lab work including histology and mass spectrometry are optional.

We search
for a candidate from the field of life science, natural science or computer science (e.g. computational biology, bioinformatics, biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, chemistry) and fluency in English. The candidate should have experience in at least one of the following areas: (image) informatics / data science, mass spectrometry, radiology / histology. We expect willingness to acquire competences in each of these fields and will provide ample training opportunities throughout the PhD.
The position (TV-L 65 %) is available as of now for 3 years.
