The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Medicine is seeking highly motivated researchers with strong analytical and statistical skills to join The Translational Immuno-Informatics Laboratory (TIIL) (https://www.tiilab.org), directed by Jason Luke, MD and Riyue Bao, Ph.D., within the Cancer Immunotherapeutics Center (CIC) of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (HCC) and University of Pittsburgh (UPitt).The Bioinformatics Scientist will be responsible for the integrative analysis of multi-omics datasets (e.g., RNAseq, DNAseq, TCRseq, single-cell, metagenomics, proteomics, etc.) and high-resolution pathology images (NanoString Digital Spatial Profiling, Vectra multispectral immunofluorescence, etc.) with important implications for understanding and changing clinical practice in human cancer, autoimmunity, infection, and response to cancer immunotherapy.The candidate will work in close collaborations with clinicians, physicians, and biologists to assist their high throughput NGS project design, data analysis, and data presentation. The candidate will also carry out independent computational research projects involving methods development, novel algorithm design, in-depth data analysis and integration of lab-generated and publicly available datasets.

The candidate will additionally train lab members in basic computational biology/bioinformatics data analysis, including the use of programs in R, Python, etc.Must have a degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, data sciences, biology or related discipline; other fields of study are acceptable if equivalent expert knowledge can be demonstrated. Must have experience in bioinformatics and large-scale biological data analysis. Ability to apply and be proficient in R/Python/Perl, and shell scripting in a Linux environment is desired. Experience in analyzing NGS datasets such as bulk RNAseq/whole-exome, single-cell RNAseq, and/or metagenomics is preferred. Expertise in biostatistics, digital pathology/image analysis, machine learning, and/or database management are desirable assets. Experience in the cancer immunology or basic immunology field is highly desirable but not required. The incumbent will be expected to follow best coding practices: issue tracking, version control, unit testing, and documentation management.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education/experience requirement.
