The “Philips 100% Digital Award” is an international corporate initiative by Philips aimed at raising awareness of projects that accelerate the transition to fully digital workflows while strengthening clinical collaboration and operational efficiency.

Philips today presented Osakidetza with the “Philips 100% Digital Award” in recognition of its innovation and digital transformation project in Pathological Anatomy during an institutional event held in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The distinction highlights Osakidetza’s progress in the digitalisation of the Pathological Anatomy services within the Biological Diagnosis Network, as part of the Digital Transformation Plan promoted by the Basque Government’s Department of Health. The initiative recognises a transformation that, due to its scale and technical complexity, represents a significant step forward in the management of anatomopathological processes.

In this context, Osakidetza estimates an annual activity of 1.3 million histological preparations, translating into approximately 1.3 petabytes of information. This presents a major data management challenge and reinforces the importance of robust, traceable, and collaboration-oriented digital infrastructures and workflows.

During the event, representatives from Osakidetza and Philips highlighted the strategic value of projects of this kind in modernising critical diagnostic pathways, strengthening coordination between professionals, and advancing more connected models of care.

Representing Osakidetza were Miren Lorea Bilbao Artetxe, General Director of Osakidetza; Xabier Ibarzabal Astigarraga, Director of Economic Strategy and Transformation; Benja Juez Fernández, Deputy Director of Information Technologies; Susana Iglesias, Head of the Application Development and Maintenance Service; Irune Ruiz Díaz, Head of the Pathological Anatomy Service at Hospital de Donostia; and María Olga Chavarrí Larrinaga.
