A Pathologist’s Perspective: Advantages Of Using FFPE Tissues For Single Cell Analysis

2025-06-26T16:08:13+00:00

How do pathologists approach critical questions of disease diagnosis? What tools help them move closer to a detailed understanding of the cellular processes that lead to disease? Traditionally, histological methods have driven diagnosis, but, in recent years, highly sensitive molecular assays—including single cell analysis—have begun to provide avenues for more in-depth profiling of tissue complexity. With these complementary methods, the field gains more potential to move toward personalized medicine.

How High-definition Spatial Transcriptomics, Single Cell FFPE, And Xenium Are Tackling The Cancer Problem Showcased At AACR 2024

2024-05-11T09:27:35+00:00

In her opening plenary session at AACR 2024, Aviv Regev, PhD, Head of Genentech Research and Early Development, pointed out the huge problem—indeed, the potentially overwhelming problem—of cancer. There are > 100 different cancer types, 10,000 known driver mutations, complex circuits driving cancer biology within and between cells in the tumor microenvironment, and an almost unfathomable number of possible small molecules and antibody structures to consider for drug development.

Case Of The Month | May 2024 | Feline Eosinophilic Sclerosing Fibroplasia

This is a section of ileum, where submucosa and tunica muscularis were almost entirely effaced by an extensive proliferation of irregular anastomosing trabeculae of collagen separated by numerous eosinophils and spindle cells, and fewer mast cells, histiocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes and plasma cells. These findings are consistent with eosinophilic sclerosing fibroplasia. In this case was also observed in colon.
