
This year at the Digital Pathology & AI Conference in London, the focus has increasingly shifted from standalone algorithms to how AI can support end-to-end laboratory workflows. Among the newer companies exhibiting was elea, a young firm developing a pathology-specific Laboratory Information System (LIS).
In this video, Richard from elea walks us through their integrated LIS platform, designed to bring accessioning, laboratory processing, slide tracking, reporting, and case sign-out into a single system. The platform embeds AI across multiple stages of the workflow, supporting tasks such as structured data capture from paper requisition forms, voice-driven gross descriptions, and real-time case assembly.
A key theme of the demonstration is augmentation rather than automation. With elea, AI is more positioned as an assistant that helps reduce repetitive work, highlights potential inconsistencies, and structures reports as cases are reviewed. Additionally, role-based permissions and tracking are built in to support compliance and maintain oversight throughout the diagnostic process.
Based in Hamburg with an expanding presence in the US, elea is now exploring opportunities in the UK, as it looks to adapt its pathology-focused LIS to different healthcare systems.
