Fusion Parasitology Suite: Trichrome Solution

The Techcyte Trichrome solution is an assisted screening tool designed to help medical technologists read fecal slides more efficiently and accurately using an AI-based algorithm and workflow.
Challenge & Solution
Studies show that up to 98% of Trichrome-stained slides are negative1. Reading them requires skilled technologists who can be difficult to find and retain. It’s difficult and monotonous, and looking eight hours a day through a microscope can cause repetitive stress injuries.
The solution is designed to help technologists quickly eliminate negative samples using a web browser on a computer monitor, allowing them to focus on the positive cases.
Cells & organisms identified.
- Blastocystis sp.
- Chilomastix mesnili
- Combined D.frag, Ib, E.nana troph
- Dientamoeba fragilis
- Endolimax nana
- Iodamoeba buetschlii
- Cyclospora cayetanensis (advisory)
- Entamoeba hartmanni
- Entamoeba sp.
- Entamoeba coli
- Entamoeba polecki
- Entamoeba histolytica-complex (4 other morphologically similar species)
- Giardia duodenalis
- Red Blood Cells
- White Blood Cells
Techcyte is a software-only company, and we believe success depends on strong partnerships with leading hardware manufacturers. Our platform is compatible with all major scanners. As a trusted distributor of top whole slide scanners, we can help you find the perfect fit for your lab’s unique needs.
Intended Features
- State-of-the-art platform
- AI-proposed images of parasites & objects of interest, grouped by class, and sorted by confidence
- Multi-scan review can combine Trichrome and Wet Mount slides into a single patient case
- Validation studies showed an average read time of 15 – 30 seconds for negative slides*
- Preliminary results from a single-site study indicate a sensitivity of 98.9% and a slide-level specificity of 98.1%*
- Scanners produce 80x equivalent digital images
*These claims have not been examined by the FDA.
Benefits

- Designed to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency of reads
- More time is available for analyzing positive cases
- Can help to quickly eliminate of negative slides
- May reduce technologist stress and fatigue
- Increased contribution margin per test
- Can improve hiring, training, and retention of lab techs and technologists
