Advancing Digital Pathology with Automation

Caris Life Sciences and Pramana have partnered to enhance digital pathology automation using Pramana’s Spectral HT scanning system. This advanced system improves efficiency by automatically detecting image errors, reducing barcode failures, and uniquely scanning double-thick slides, a feature not found in other scanners.

High-Volume Digital Pathology Operations

Caris Life Sciences processes 1.5 million slides annually, generating over 1 petabyte of image data. Their vendor-agnostic lab integrates multiple scanners, including Pramana Spectral HT for clinical use, Leica GT450 for R&D, and Hamamatsu S360 for unstained slides. AI-driven tumor detection, automated annotation, and quantitative IHC interpretation further streamline workflow.

Reliable Automated Quality Control & Validation

In a study of 867 slides, Pramana’s scanner achieved a 100% scan success rate, with 98.57% agreement between automated and manual quality control. Clinical validation showed:

  • 100% accuracy in primary H&E diagnoses
  • 98.03% concordance in IHC interpretation
  • Strong alignment between automated QC and manual review

Conclusion

Pramana’s automated scanning and AI-powered QC improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in digital pathology. This technology helps labs transition to fully digital workflows while reducing manual work and enhancing overall quality.
