Empowering Pathologists with AI: Mindpeak & AstraZeneca Present Breakthrough HER2 Research at ASCO 2025

Mindpeak is honored to present their joint research with AstraZeneca on AI-assisted training for HER2 IHC interpretation at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting – delivered today, Friday, May 30th , by Marina de Brot in Hall D2 .

Why it matters:

The classification of HER2-low and the emerging HER2-ultralow breast cancer category is becoming increasingly important – especially with the rise of HER2-targeted antibody-drug conjugates like Enhertu . These therapies offer new hope to patients even with minimal HER2
expression .

Yet, distinguishing IHC 1+ from IHC 0 with faint membrane staining remains one of the most challenging tasks in diagnostic pathology. As emphasized in the 2025 ASCO meeting theme by President Dr. Robin Zon* , improving diagnostic accuracy is crucial for expanding equitable
access to personalized cancer therapies .

To address this challenge, Mindpeak study used AI-supported training via the Mindpeak ComPath Academy platform, engaging 287 pathologists from 11 countries in a global education initiative.

And the results? Clinically meaningful and statistically compelling – for example 40% more patients were correctly identified as HER2-ultralow , making them eligible for novel targeted treatments.
