
INTRODUCTION
The SPIE Medical Imaging 2025 meeting, held on February 16–20 at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, California, brought together researchers, clinicians, and industry experts in what has become the internationally recognized forum for cutting-edge developments in medical imaging and digital pathology. This year’s meeting featured 768 presentations, including 400 poster presentations, highlighting the breadth and depth of recent progress in the field.
The meeting centered around the following topics:
- Digital and computational pathology
- Physics of medical imaging
- Image processing
- Computer-aided diagnosis
- Image-guided procedures, robotic interventions, and modeling
- Image perception, observer performance, and technology assessment
- Clinical and biomedical imaging
- Imaging informatics
- Ultrasonic imaging and tomography
As the premier event where the science of medical imaging is explored, the conference maintained its tradition of fostering collaboration among diverse disciplines. The program spanned fundamental scientific principles, technological innovations, and clinical applications, with particular emphasis this year on artificial intelligence (AI), computational pathology, and precision medicine.
The conference was anchored by keynote presentations that set the tone for broader discussions. Of particular note were the talks on computational approaches in Alzheimer’s disease and the future of diagnostic medicine, which highlighted the increasing convergence of traditional imaging techniques and advanced computational methods.
The scientific sessions were complemented by professional development opportunities, networking events, and interactive poster sessions, creating an environment conducive to knowledge exchange and collaboration among participants. A notable addition to this year’s program was the enhanced focus on human-in-the-loop frameworks and explainable AI, reflecting the growing importance of interpretable machine learning in clinical settings.
The conference proceedings, published in the SPIE Digital Library, will serve as a valuable resource for the medical imaging community, documenting the latest advances in areas ranging from neurodegenerative disease analysis to computational pathology.
