BxBoard

Preserve tissue quality and increase cancer detection rates with tissue-handling devices for the clinic and lab.

Goodbye bottles for small biopsies, hello Lumea BxBoard! Medical personnel place tissue samples on special hydrophilic formalin-soaked sponges within the BxBoards. This tech preserves anatomic orientation, allowing for more specific localization of the disease.

The BxBoard offers several improvements over traditional specimen containers:

  • Efficient Fixation: Uses a hydrophilic sponge saturated with 3 mL of 10% NBF for even and active diffusion, speeding up the fixation process while maintaining biomolecular integrity.
  • Enhanced Design: Features an airtight environment that uses formalin gas to assist in even specimen fixation, reducing specimen cancellation rates significantly (4% for BxBoard vs. 13% for bottles).
  • Visibility and Identification:
    • Transparent, form-fitting lid allows for easy specimen identification without opening.
    • Color-coded casings enhance visibility and reduce labeling errors.
  • Environmental and Safety Benefits:
    • Reduces the number of required specimen containers, lowering potential for spillage.
    • Minimizes NBF exposure risks in handling and transport due to absorbed liquid in the sponge.
    • Snap-on lid design eliminates risks associated with mis-threading lids on traditional containers.

BxBoards are also healthier for MAs, physicians, and lab personnel because they reduce the amount of formaldehyde exposure.

Clinics and surgery centers using the BxBoard report an 83% reduction in containers and an 89% reduction of formalin per prostate case, and an overall 136% reduction in biohazard waste per histology lab.
